This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now…
Photograph and interview women doing something GOOD.
Women who wake up each day with steadfast dedication and commitment to their work, ideals, and dreams.
Women who may not always get the recognition they deserve.
Forward thinking women, women on a mission, women that believe they have something to GIVE.
Women like Gina Makkar…
Woman on a Mission Interview No 1: Gina Annetta Makkar (Freelance writer/editor for Gina Makkar Communications)
Managing Editor of Our Homes Magazine for Oakville and Burlington
Written Publications: Our Homes, Canadian Running, and the Canadian Franchise Association
– Tell us about your mission? What was the inspiration for your idea/company/project?
I’ve always known that writing was my thing. Every job I took in the corporate world, I’d somehow end up with the writing hat on so eventually I decided it was time to stop fighting it. I went back to school for creative writing and never looked back. Being true to myself is the best thing I’ve ever done.
– How would you describe yourself in 10 words or less?
Yikes! How does someone describe themselves? I’d say I’m caring, honest, sarcastic, direct, hot-blooded, expressive, loving and creative.
– What is most sacred to you?
My family is the home in my heart. I also try to make the most of everything I’m given every single day.
– Who or what is a current influential force in your life?
For one, my mom has always been the cornerstone of everything in my life. I’m inspired by Margaret Atwood. Her words sing off the page.
– What was the hardest part of growing up for you?
My dad passed away when I was seven-years-old. That was hard. I was also a little behind in school in language and comprehension of all things! It was tough keeping up.
– What advice can you offer to young women with GOOD ideas today?
You have that idea for a reason. Go with it! Take the time to really listen to that quiet voice in your head and let it lead you. If you are true to yourself, it will lead you to success. I think it’s more important to try, even if you bump along the road for a while rather than live in the shadow of fear and wonder what might have been. Make it happen!
– Where will you be in 5 years? What will your ‘mission’ look like?
I love what I do and I love the idea of sharing my knowledge through teaching. I’d also like to take the time I need to publish more of my creative musings.
– Where can we find out more about your project?
