This session was very near and dear to my heart. This is Naomi. My sweet darling; ma cherié amour!
Naomi has had my heart since the day I first met her. She was one of my first babies I photographed as a newborn, almost two years ago. Yes, my little Naomi (yes, she’s mine in spirit, just sayin’ … ) is turning two later this month! How time flies! And she’s getting more beautiful by the minute! When Renee contacted me to do photos, I was over the moon. I’ve said it time and time again, I do what I do, in part, because I love watching families grow. And I love capturing love. So, this session was a little like heaven to me because I got to spend time with a great friend and her amazing daughter who I’ve had the pleasure to watch grow for the last 2 years!
Yep, cute to boot right? And she looks so much like her mama too! Sorry Josh! ;) Some of you may recognise Renee. Renee is a talented hairdresser and my personal stylist for magazines and photography related ventures. I’ve used her numerous times on themed shoots and we have the best time together, but for this session, Renee wanted to keep things real; I mean, really real. She wanted a day in the life. A lifestyle session. You know, what her and Naomi typically do on a daily basis. What they typically wear. There was nothing set up or staged. No props (except Naomi’s sippy cup, her favourite hat, and my elastic hair band). Renee wanted to capture this moment in time, so there were no rules. My kind of session. Sometimes, when you put expectations aside, you end up with the best results! :)
Although Naomi started off a bit shy, she quickly hammed it up for the camera (and me) and produced some of my favourite photos to date.
And as you can see, we caught a range of emotions.  Naomi was full of joy, curiosity, and exploration. Just the way a toddler sees the world.
I even managed to capture this gem of a moment (see below) and yes, it’s very typical of Naomi to push Renee away. Every kid does it, don’t be hatin’! But I love that Renee understands and loves this photo as much as I do. Yes, Naomi didn’t want her mama to be near her for a few of her photos, and that’s okay. She wanted the attention all to herself … and since we were keeping it real, I had to include this shot! ;)
See, that’s much better! I even got in on the action too. Oh yes, I couldn’t resist having my photo taken with Naomi (despite not being camera ready myself)! And as such, I leave you with my heart full with a session that truly touched my soul. I’m shooting a HUGE wedding tomorrow for one of my client’s, so I’m taking the rest of the night off to gear up and relax. Until next time, Robyn xo
