Over Mothers Day weekend (yes, I call it Mothers Day weekend because why limit it to just a day haha), we stayed over at my sister in law’s house so our kids could hang out and have a sleepover. She has two sweet kids that my kids adore and vice verca. Her eldest is only 3 months older than my boys and her daughter – well, she can hold her own with 3 older boys haha. The kids planned their activities out weeks in advance. They knew exactly what they were going to do with my kids. Here’s a little taste of what went down after a lovely dinner together.
All I can say is, boys will be boys. And girls will be girls. These four will be lifelong buddies. When they’re together, it’s tough to tear them apart.
We hit the beach, which is minutes away from their house, and although it was a little chilly; we put our hoodies on and head out so I could take some photos of the kids together. I was trying out a new lens and my goodness, it’s a beast (thank you Jennifer)! But it takes lovely photos doesn’t it!? Speaking of, I just adore this photo of the boys together.
Of course, I had to throw in a few of just my kids because I never have enough it seems. But I also wanted to make sure at some point I got some natural non posed portraits of their cousins. These were taken back at the house as we were getting ready to eat campfire s’mores around their fire pit. Pretty safe to say, marshmallow in hair and all, that it was a perfect Spring night and a pre-cursor to an amazing summer ahead!
Something about this photo just speaks to me! Not sure if it’s because the boys are huddled together or if it’s that they’re all in matching hoodies. Maybe it’s that they all look so much alike. Whatever it is, it’s lovely to me.
Eventually it got dark and the lights had to go out. All 4 kids bundled up in one bed and said goodnight. Fi gave up about 5 minutes in and went to her own bed; I don’t blame her one bit! But the 3 boys slept snuggled together all night, and in the morning, they helped make me and my sister in law breakfast for Mothers Day. It was a wonderful weekend; one that we’ll never forget. No, we didn’t do anything crazy – we didn’t have to. Sometimes, life is about the little things. In this case, it was about family and friendship because these kids are family first but friends for life. That’s also how I feel about my sis in law and her husband. In my eyes, you don’t need any bells and whistles to make that work. Either way, I am grateful that my children have cousins their age that they love. In fact, they are so fortunate to have so many cousins of all ages that they adore. I can’t wait to see what their teenaged years will be like (although I’m in no rush to age them one bit).
Thank you for visiting another day in the life! Please make sure to visit Tam’s 10 on 10 this month. She’s local, creative and simply wonderful. Please keep the circle going and see what my colleagues from around the world are doing! Until next time, Robyn xo
