My last 10 on 10 for 2014. And it’s a festive one. You see, for years I’ve wanted to go to the Distillery District at Christmas. It’s always so festive but now, with the Toronto Christmas Market in place, I knew we had to go. Sunday was the last day for the Market so we took the kids down when it opened and enjoyed all that it had to offer before it got super busy.
We started off by walking around, taking in all of the sights and sounds. The big Christmas Tree was up in all its glory and Prince Charming was reading A Night Before Christmas for all the kids. What a treat!
What came after … we were not expecting to do. The dreaded ferris wheel. See, I haven’t been on one of these unstable carnival type ferris wheels in a really long time and on this day, I realized why. They are scary. They creak. They move around. The bar that held us together was cold but I gripped it for dear life. Jackson was petrified to go but Jameson really wanted to and after a 45 minute wait, we were all braving it together. Jackson started off excited but after a few short minutes, I could hear him in the seat above us freaking out. Then I started freaking out. Then Wesley started freaking out. Jameson just laughed. He clearly has no fear. But as we got higher and higher as more people were loading in, it was becoming apparently obvious that I’d need to close my eyes, hold on tight, and breathe deeply through the experience. Once the ride got going, it was okay. The boys were screaming with delight. I was screaming too (on the inside) and when I got off, I decided that I really didn’t need to eat lunch after all. Conquering fear. It just got real people.
The Nutty Bavarian and German sausages from The Woodcutter was a much needed treat after the ferris wheel of death. As we listened to carollers on stage, we knew we had to go see Santa, who was meeting all the kiddies at the Christmas Market. Coolest Santa in town too! Mind you, it was very sunny out but still. The best was when they asked me if I wanted them to take a photo. With my camera around my neck, the guy behind me said, “Umm, she’s got a D4s, pretty sure her photos will be way better than yours” LOL!!
After meeting Santa, we warmed up in the American Express Building with some hot chocolate and treats. Even though it was a pretty mild day, it was still pretty cold after being outside for several hours so we appreciated the break and the show from one of Santa’s elves, who the boys hugged after. She was pretty awesome and put a huge smile on our faces with her dancing and total cuteness!
By this point, we were winding down. We were cold and tired and we had all the fun we could have after being there for almost 4 hours. It was busy and festive and such a great time. I highly recommend a visit to the Christmas Market in Toronto’s Historic Distillery District. Whether you go day or night, it’s beautiful and there’s so much to see and do. We met so many wonderful people as we walked around and stood in lines grabbing treats and food to enjoy; everyone was in the Christmas spirit. Best of all, my kids thanked me in the car for giving them a great experience that they will always remember. For me, that’s truly what it’s all about.
Thanks for visiting and for following my adventures for another year. Will this project continue for a third year? We shall soon see. Tell me what you think. Do you like seeing a day in my life? In the meantime, please keep the circle going by checking out what Tamsin did this December with her family! With lots of love, Robyn xo
