I photographed this little man over a year ago. Why am I blogging it now? Well, I’m behind with my blogging but with a busy schedule, I’m just not able to blog every session I do. But, I was going through files tonight and this one crossed my path. First, this adorable baby is the son of a very good friend of mine who I don’t get to see nearly as often as I’d like (I miss you girl). Second, babies in general were on my brain today as I prepared my studio for a brand new baby boy coming in the morning.
I was writing my client earlier today to tell her how to prepare as she booked today for tomorrow (long story – all I’ll say is there’s a difference between amateurs and pros). At any rate, I told her that her baby would be posed mainly “au natural”, which is when I remembered photographing sweet Caide with nothing but clothes on. Caide had to have open heart surgery just days after he was born. I can only imagine this feeling (and believe me, I’ve been there before). I’ve been at the hospital with a brand new baby, unsure if he was going to make it through the night. It’s a horrible feeling. For those of you that don’t know, my son Jameson had meningitis at just 5 weeks of age. And it changed my life forever. Nothing mattered but him. And nothing still matters but my children and my close friends and family. But Jameson pulled through and we are so eternally grateful. Caide, well … he’s a fighter. Â He’s had two major heart surgeries since he was born (and many more to come throughout his life). He definitely has angels watching over him.
Because he had open wounds, I had to handle his session differently than the rest.
Sweet, pure, delicate. Soft and new. And that smile! :)
And that pout! I mean really…. how beautiful is he! I loved all the little details I was able to capture.
Even at one month of age.
I loved how dainty he was. Such lovely features. Such beautiful long fingers and porcelain skin. I couldn’t pose him on his tummy because of his wounds that were healing. But laying him on his back really allowed us to see him.
And of course, it wouldn’t be complete without a photo of sweet Caide with his proud older brother Callan. Such darling little boys with beautiful parents. A perfect little family. I just adore this photo of these two brothers. It really stood out to me when I shot it and edited it. I can see it in a magazine. Hmmm…. ;)
So you see, newborn photos don’t have to follow the norm. Babies are just as beautiful with clothes on. I thought it would be challenging to go “outside of the box” at first, but honestly, this is how we see our babies everyday. In a onesie. In pure white. In a wee hat, laying on a blanket. Natural. Relaxed. In a peaceful slumber. Not in some strange position that they can’t get themselves into on their own. Let’s say Caide didn’t have a wound on his chest. Did putting clothes on him distract you? Absolutely not. His beautiful smile and warm heart is what made you melt.
Just some food for thought. Robyn xo
