Meet Sara and Peter … the sweetest couple tying the knot on Saturday. I have to say, it’s always nice to know the couple my couples in advance but in this case, we had a third party connection (Sara’s sister Joanne is the owner of JetBaby – the coolest boutique clothing store for children and someone who I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the past). When Sara told me that Peter loves fishing and being on the water, we knew Bronte Harbour would be an excellent spot for their photos. And it was. In fact, it was magical. Oh yes, it was magical. Summer light is a force to be reckoned with, believe me.
It was actually a real treat for me to shoot at Bronte Harbour. I’ve never shot a couple there before so it was an evening of exploration for me. I know some people really like shooting in the same location because they know the best spots and the light really well, but I’m always up for a challenge and wasn’t at all shy to shoot in a brand new location. It’s my job to find inspiration and beauty no matter where we are … and of course, that sweet light was in abundance that night. At Bronte Harbour, beauty isn’t too hard to find. And it started with Sara and Peter.
The grounds are Bronte Harbour were beautiful. It was lush and full of green grass and flowers. Oh and lots of butterflies. I even caught one swirling around Sara and Peter — it must have sensed their love. I certainly did. Seriously, I must be getting old because watching them smile at each other, laugh, and enjoy each other made me a little emotional. You know you love your job when …. ;)
Although it was fairly bright out (with water on both sides of the boardwalk, everything was reflecting light), we didn’t shy away from the sun. We embraced everything about our evening together. We took a lot of photos, as you can see, because we had plans to do something special with the end result (all to be revealed soon enough). Needless to say, it was a lot of fun planning everything out as we basked in the summer sun.
Sigh … no words needed.
There is something about green and purple that I just love. I know they must have thought I was nuts when I told them where to stand (I should have taken a pull back shot so you could see what this actually looked like). But I mean, really … it was gorgeous and fit the mood perfectly. And yes, more butterflies were swirling. What a moment…
And of course, in true “Robyn” form, I told them that the session was over … but it really wasn’t. Why? Because I never stop haha! And when I see inspiration, I have this overwhelming desire to bottle it up. We were back where we started … except the light was now perfectly golden and warm as it set over the water. I knew I had to take advantage of it. And I’m so glad I did — really, this was the perfect way to end their session. With warmth and love in abundance.
Sara & Peter, I cannot wait for your big day this Saturday! It will, without a doubt, be a huge celebration of love. I am humbled to be a part of your lives, thank you from the bottom of my heart to yours! Robyn xo
