Next up on my day dedicated to my favourite wee ones is James (affectionately known as Sweet Baby James) to many. He’s such a beautiful baby. You know, like one of those babies that makes you gasp when you see them for the first time. Gerber worthy. Yep, that’s James. He totally stole my heart from the moment I first met him and here’s why *sigh*
See what I mean. That smile, those eyes. His rolls. His thick hair and big hands. Don’t get me started on those adorable dimples *gush*
I first photographed James when he was about 4 months of age. Not necessarily an ideal age to photograph a baby because they are very limited in terms of what they can do. Most babies at this stage won’t tolerate much and if they don’t love tummy time, well …. let’s just say this stage is not easy to document unless you’re like James. Yes, it helped that he really took a liking to me. Not sure what it is, but babies love me. They really do. But we just had this bond. So, for me, these photographs come from a different place in my heart (as it is whenever I photograph children that I happen to have a relationship with). Needless to say, it was a joy capturing James at this stage. And I’m glad that his mama got in front of my camera for a photo too — I know all too well how hard it is to have decent photos of yourself with your kids. But all you need is one really good one … like this one ;) and you’re good to go!
Fast forward 6 months later and we now have a baby who is crawling, pulling up to standing, and walking. A baby who now eats mum mums and can’t live without his teething necklace. A boy who now has his front two teeth and lighter coloured hair. A boy who was too busy to sit for photographs ;) but I always win in the end!
He has an infectious smile. And I loved capturing those cute little details that make being 10 months old so special.
Most of all, I just loved photographing such a curious little boy that I know and love. Until next time, Robyn xo
